Congratulations: USBands NOVA Regional

Congratulations to the JMHS Marching Ensemble for an outstanding performance at the USBands Northern Virginia Regional on Saturday, September 23.

JMHS was the 6-Open class champion with a score of 85.325 and received the caption awards(highest scores) for General Effect, Visual, and Color Guard.

JMHS received the highest score of all Open class bands in the entire competition.

What is the different between the Bands of America and the USBands Band Classification system:

  • USBands classifies band by the number of performers. So bands in higher classification have more performing members than those in smaller classifications.  USBands also has two different competition levels: Open and A class.  Both of these classes use the same adjudication sheets, but the performance rubrics are applied differently and are scores cannot be correlated between the level.  A good analogy would be that Open is "Varsity" and A would b "JV"
  • Bands of America classifies bands by school enrollment  in grade 10-12.  There is no direct correlation between BOA classes and band size. All bands are judges on the same sheet with the same rubric throughout an entire regional across the county.
